Brother is a popular manufacturer of printers for personal and business use. Many models have Wi-Fi, or wireless capability, which means you can print documents from a computer to the other side of the room or anywhere in the building. To set up your brother’s wireless printer for use, however, you first need to connect it to your local network and install drivers on all computers that have access to them.

Wireless Brother Printer setup:

  • Step 1: Consult your router’s documentation to access its web interface. Open the interface in your computer’s browser and type in the router’s SSID number, authentication method, encryption mode, and encryption key.
  • Step 2: Plug your brother’s wireless printer into your router via an Ethernet cable. This is only necessary during printer setup: you will not need to physically connect the two after everything is done.
  • Step 3: Insert the Brother driver software installation CD into your computer’s drive, and run the setup program. Select “Wireless Setup and Install Driver” and “Install Step by Step.”
  • Step 4: Check the radio button “with cable” and double-click the “Next” button. Select the initial option with “BRN” in the list of available network devices. This is your brother’s wireless printer.
  • Step 5: On the next screen select the wireless network with the SSID of your router. If it does not show up in the list, click the “Add” button and enter the SSID number manually. Enter the authentication method, encryption mode, and encryption key on the following screens.
  • Step 6: Attach the cable when prompted, and submit your consent to the license agreement. Check the radio button labeled “Find Network for Devices and Select from a List of Discovered Devices” and select your printer from the list that appears to finish the installation.
  • Step 7: Use the CD to install the necessary drivers on another computer using the printer. Select “Install Driver” in the setup program instead of running a wireless setup on such subsequent computers.
